Location
Evergreen Lodge is situated in the heart of Chelston village, Torquay (click
here for a map and directions). It is an ideal base to explore Devon whatever
your interests or inclinations with good local amenities.
Tucked away on the west side of Torbay, adjacent to the delightful village of Cockington,
Chelston affords the discerning visitor a relaxing and peaceful retreat. The location
is within easy reach of Torquay seafront (15 minutes walk), railway station (10 minutes
walk), harbour and town centre (20 minutes walk), should you crave civilisation. For
those less energetic, there is a regular bus service, connecting Chelston with the
Torbay district (the bus stop is a minutes walk from Evergreen Lodge).
In addition to Cockington there are many historic places of interest nearby (see
National Trust website www.nationaltrust.co.uk)
The walks of South Devon from Dartmoor down to the spectacular coastline affords
one of the most abrupt changes of scenery likely to be encountered anywhere in this
country. The walks range from the flat and serene of Cockington Valley to the undulating
and demanding wilderness of Dartmoor – the highest land in England south of
the Pennines. There are at least 20 excellent walks, enough even for the most avid
enthusiast.
For families and children whatever the weather, there is always a wide and plentiful
choice of activities in and around Torbay! From the wonderful beaches with safe surf
and swimming to Kent's Cavern, Babbacombe Model Village, South Devon Steam Railway,
Castle Drogo, Paignton Zoo, Woodlands Leisure Park, Pennywell Farm and Wildlife Centre,
The River Dart Country Park, Buckland Abbey, Plymouth Dome, The Hedgehog Hospital,
River and Bay Cruises, Ghostly Tales, Butterflies and Otters at Buckfast.....to name
just a few! |
